Life in the city never hits pause. From honking horns to crowded subways, itās easy to feel spiritually scattered. But for this country-raised, faith-rooted girl, devotional time is more than a habitāitās a lifeline. I may no longer hear the rustle of trees or the call of mountain lions at dusk, but Iāve learned to hear Godās voice in new ways, even amid the city noise.
š Monday: Speak, LordāIām Listening
Monday mornings begin with stillness. I often set my alarm early, make a hot cup of coffee, and read a Psalm or Proverb. I journal whatever stands out. I ask one simple question: āLord, what do You want to show me this week?ā
š Tuesday: Digging into the Word
Tuesday is for Bible study. I pull out my favorite commentary or devotional app and go deeper. Lately, I have been using a app called Duomo which helps me to process personal issues alongside of my Bible app which I really enjoy! I love the devotions that it has on it. Even 15 minutes helps anchor my heart before the day gets loud.
š Wednesday: Intercession Day
Midweek is intercession day. I make a list of family, friends, and people Iāve passed on the street who seem heavy-hearted. I pray over them, sometimes with tears, sometimes in silence. Itās also a time when I find myself giving thanks to God.

š¶ Thursday: Worship Reset
On Thursdays, I reset my spirit through worship. I create a new playlist with worship songs that speak to my current season and play them during walks or while cooking dinner. Whether itās Maverick City Music or an old gospel hymn, I let the lyrics lead me back to center.
šļø Friday: Communion & Worship
Friday nights are sacred. I use distracting items less and spend intentional time with the Lordāoften beginning with communion and ending with spontaneous praise. Whether itās praying in the Spirit, journaling, or dancing to a worship song in my living room, I use this time to reflect on the weekāmy victories, my mistakesāand ask God to refresh my heart before the weekend rush begins.
āļø Saturday: Scripture Writing
On Saturdays, I slow down. I pause and I give thanks to God. Then I pause and I listen for that still small voice, the voice that I have come to know as the Spirit of the Lord, at which point He helps me absorb Godās Word in a personal way. This is also when I do creative journaling or sketch out what Godās been showing me.
āŖ Sunday: Home Church & Holy Spirit
I start the morning by tuning into the church livestream from back home in Georgia. Thereās something healing about familiar voices and worship styles that shaped my faith. Later in the evening, I leave room for the Holy Spirit to moveāwhether thatās through prayer, tears, dancing, or stillness. No agenda, just presence.
That said, city life doesnāt make faith impossibleāit just asks you to be more intentional. And over time, these rhythms have become my sanctuary. I donāt need stained glass or pews to meet with God. I just need space, a willing heart, and a desire to stay rootedāno matter where I live.
