A Thankful Labor Day Weekend at My Georgia Country Home

This past Labor Day weekend, I found myself overflowing with gratitude. Life hasn’t been easy lately, but being back at my Georgia country home gave me the chance to slow down, breathe, and focus on what matters most.

My husband had fallen ill with what we first suspected was Covid. Thankfully, after some time and observation, we realized it was bacterial pneumonia—something serious, but not contagious, as I never caught it. Praise God, he is doing so much better now! In the midst of the worry, I was thankful for the quiet time to care for him and also take care of myself.

Simple Joys in the Midst of Rest

Our weekend was nothing fancy. We laid around the house, watching movies, resting, and simply enjoying each other’s company. I cooked to my heart’s content, filling our home with the smells of good food, which always seems to make everything feel a little better.

I also picked up my handcrafted textiling again. There’s something so soothing about weaving threads together with your hands—watching something beautiful emerge out of patience and love. This weekend, I completed two lovely pieces, woven with care, which I plan to sell soon in the Country Girl Gone City Store. For any of my craftsy readers, these patches would be perfect to turn into a scarf, purse, or any project that needs a personal, heartfelt touch.

Though it started in concern, this Labor Day weekend turned into a true blessing. I was reminded of the importance of slowing down, resting, and cherishing the simple moments. Today is an even greater blessing, because my husband is well on the mend, and I’m carrying forward the peace that comes from rest, creativity, and gratitude.
