Yesterday was one of those days when city life felt overwhelming — the noise, the pace, and a handful of stressful appointments. But in the middle of it all, my husband had a surprise for me.
I had no idea where we were going. All I knew was that we were slipping away for a two-hour break from the chaos. When we finally arrived, I realized he had taken me somewhere I’d always dreamed of visiting — the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

Since I was 10 years old, I’ve dreamed of seeing certain iconic art pieces, assuming I’d have to travel to Europe to experience them. But yesterday, without even crossing an ocean, one of those dreams came true.

While exploring MoMA, I overheard someone mention that one of the most famous paintings in the world was there. My heart skipped a beat — could it be? I hurried through floors, snapping photos of Pablo Picasso’s work amongst others along the way, until finally, after nearly two hours of searching, I found myself on the 5th floor, surrounded by a crowd.
There it was — The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh — right in front of me. Alongside it, another one of his masterpieces.

Knowing Van Gogh’s faith, the tragedy of his life, and the depth of his art, I felt a wave of gratitude — for my husband, for the moment, for God’s kindness in giving me a glimpse of beauty in one of the darkest months of my life.

I wept quietly, thanking God for that unexpected joy. It was a reminder that even in life’s storms, He still gives us small rays of light.
That being said, as I stood there, I thought of my Granny. When I was a teenager, she would take me up the mountainside in Hiawassee, Georgia, at sunset. She’d point to the way the Appalachian Mountains framed Lake Chatuge below, with the sunset mirrored on the lake and say, “Do you see that? That’s the most beautiful view on earth! If I were an artist, if I could paint that — I would.”
For her, having lived all across the United States, nothing compared to home. That was her version of heaven.
And art — whether in a museum in New York City or painted by God across the mountains of Georgia — has a way of making us pause, breathe, and remember what’s eternal.
Psalm 19:1 says:
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
And while the “perfect world” we long for isn’t a world we can paint ourselves into — it’s the one God is preparing for those of us who have accepted His Son Jesus. But until then, He gives us glimpses, if we’re willing to notice them.

If you’ve ever had a “Starry Night” moment — a pause in the chaos where God lets beauty break through — treasure it. Those moments are a lifeline for in the meantime.
And if you have not accepted His Son into your heart then I encourage you to do so. Do not wait nor waste time. Today is the day of salvation for we’re not guaranteed to live past tomorrow- matter of fact we never know how much life will change for us all from one day to the next. Here today, gone tomorrow. As the Bible says, “He is not willing that anyone should perish but that all should come to the knowledge of Him who first loved you.” So, if you feel the need then I encourage you to pray and simply tell Him that you are sorry and let Him know that you are here and you are willing to know more about Him and His will for your life. Because Hell is real and it is torment- But Heaven is beyond beautiful and beyond sweeter and more perfect than any of us could ever imagine!
