The Power of Choice: You Always Have One

People often say things like, “Well, I had no choice,” or “I was born this way.” But let’s set the record straight—that is a cultural mindset, not a universal truth. It’s a product of propaganda that encourages resignation instead of reflection. While the world increasingly leans on excuses, there is another, more liberating truth: everything in life is a choice. From the clothes we wear, to the food we eat, to the company we keep, even down to the beliefs we hold and the paths we pursue—every single action begins with a choice. Yes, even the most controversial or personal ones, including sexual orientation, habits, and behaviors. Nothing is fixed unless you choose to accept it as such.

Some may argue, “But how do I know what’s right and what’s wrong?” While I understand and respect that not everyone believes in the Bible, I do. I’m not here to convert you. I’m here to ask you to think. And for those who seek truth and wisdom in the pages of Scripture, it offers a solid foundation for discerning right from wrong. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” That tells us that not all paths are equal, and not all choices bring life. Many people today suffer emotionally, mentally, and spiritually—not because life “just happened to them”—but because of the choices they made, knowingly or unknowingly. Choices carry consequences. Good choices bear fruit. Poor choices bring pain.

I’ve lived by this principle for years. I don’t jump off cliffs just because the crowd is doing it. I pause. I pray. I weigh the cost. In 2018, my husband was diagnosed with total bone marrow failure. The doctors in Georgia quickly pushed for aggressive, 100% radiation therapy. But deep in my spirit, everything screamed, “No!” I chose to seek God’s wisdom. I prayed—desperately, continually—for two years. In 2020, a university doctor finally gave us answers: my husband had an exceedingly rare disease. And had he been given that radiation, he would have died. My choice to wait and pray quite literally saved his life. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” That verse is not just a beautiful quote—it’s a survival strategy in a chaotic world.

In closing, I urge you to examine your life carefully. Don’t be quick to blame your past, your upbringing, or your circumstances. Ask yourself: Am I making wise, thoughtful, Spirit-led decisions? Or am I drifting on the tide of culture? Galatians 6:7 says, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” The choices you make today will become the harvest of your tomorrow. Choose life. Choose wisdom. Choose prayer over panic. And remember—you always have a choice.
