My latest painting, “Living Waters,” is a reflection of the beauty of life’s journey and the enduring bonds between mother and child. This piece captures a breathtaking scene of a rocky cliff with a deep blue waterfall cascading into a river, illuminated by a light shining from behind the falls into the night sky. On top of the cliff, a mother bear has just crossed the waterfall, leaving her baby bear behind, who hesitates, pondering its next move.

This painting is not only a complement to a repurposed artwork I previously created—a hand-carved, wooden wall art piece of a mother bear and her cub wandering among pine trees—but it also tells a deeper story. To me, “Living Waters” represents the ever-changing nature of life and the constant renewal that comes from embracing the challenges and beauty that life offers.

As I worked on this painting, I was reminded of the profound symbolism of water in the Bible. In John 4:14, Jesus says, “But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Just as the river in my painting flows with life-giving energy, so does Christ offer us the living waters that can forever change and renew us.

In the painting, the mother bear’s journey across the waterfall symbolizes the trials and growth we experience in life. The baby bear’s hesitation reflects the moments of doubt and fear we all face. But like the light that illuminates the trees and the river, Christ’s love and guidance are always there to light our way, encouraging us to take that leap of faith.

“Living Waters” is not just a visual representation of nature’s beauty, but a spiritual reminder that Christ, the Living Water, is always available to refresh our souls. If we humble ourselves and drink from His fountain, we will find our lives transformed in ways we never imagined.
