I’m thrilled to share an update on my sweet Dixie, who was recently hospitalized with a strange bacterial infection. After a couple of rounds of antibiotics and a few days under surveillance at the veterinary hospital, Dixie began to recover, and I’m happy to report that she’s now more spunky than ever!
Since bringing her home, Dixie’s playful personality has really come to life. One of her new favorite games is when I pretend she’s a bowling ball—I’ll gently swing her down to the floor, and her little legs start scampering at full speed, making it an absolutely hilarious sight. She’s also showing off her smarts with puzzles. Yesterday, we introduced her to a simple puzzle game where she had to remove her favorite toy mouse from a sock. She did it in less than five minutes, proving just how clever she is. Each time she succeeds, she’s rewarded with treats and lots of affection, which has been great for her development.
With all the progress Dixie has made, she’s not far from being ready for adoption or moving into a more permanent foster home. As someone who primarily works with urgent care rescue cases and bottle babies, it’s been an absolute joy to watch Dixie thrive. She truly is a gem and has been the highlight of this rescue season!
Rescuing kittens always brings new challenges and surprises. Some are wild and need months of positive reinforcement training, while others just need a gentle touch to become affectionate companions. Last year, I faced one of the worst scenarios—a litter of bottle babies with a mother too malnourished to feed them, some suffering from abuse and sacrifice. In those moments, I’m grateful for local rescues like Coco’s Cupboard, who stepped in to help. While we lost a few of those kittens, the success stories of those who made it to loving homes are what keep me going.

In closing, I’m so proud of how far Dixie has come, and I’m excited to see her find her forever home soon. She’s a true success story, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.
