Since 2020, my life has been a whirlwind of trips between Georgia and Manhattan. My husband, diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia, reached the point of aggressive leukemia, necessitating a life-saving bone marrow transplant. This relentless journey turned Manhattan into our home away from home, a city that became familiar yet challenging with its bustling streets and concrete landscapes.
Manhattan’s lack of trees and green spaces can be tough on one’s mental health. As a caregiver navigating the complexities of my husband’s illness, I’ve felt the weight of this urban environment. To counteract the stress, I’ve made it my mission to visit as many museums as possible during our stays. There’s something profoundly therapeutic about immersing oneself in art, studying its textures, and unraveling its history.
One of my favorite places to visit is Sotheby’s. Not only is it a treasure trove of incredible art, but it’s also often free to the public—a blessing for a caregiver like me. The opportunity to lose myself in the beauty and creativity of the exhibits provides a much-needed respite from the daily challenges we face. It’s a space where I can breathe, reflect, and find a moment of peace.

Art has a way of speaking to the soul, offering comfort and inspiration. Each visit to a museum or gallery helps me recharge and gain the strength needed to continue this journey. It’s a reminder that even in the midst of hardship, there is beauty and hope to be found.
I invite you to check out the photo gallery from my recent trip to Sotheby’s, where I captured some of the incredible artworks that brought me solace and joy. I hope these images inspire you as much as they have inspired me.
